Are you an early career researcher? Would you like to gain experience of managing and leading research projects and teams? You can apply for £100k to £350k in total, and hold this grant for up to five years. Applications can be for a wide range of activities such as surveys, travel, staff costs etc.
You can apply for any subject areas. N.B: ESRC have recently announced that applications in "AI for Social Sciences" (e.g. digital trace or smart data, modelling complex economic and social systems, or AI-driven evidence synthesis) are particularly welcomed at present. However if you don't work in AI, don't be put off applying as this is still a very suitable scheme.
(If you would like to apply for more than £350k, or do not class yourself as an early career researcher, then a “standard" ESRC responsive mode application would be more suitable. The funder's current interest in AI for Social Sciences also applies to these "standard" ESRC applications).
Funder deadline: Rolling deadline.
If you are interested in applying for this, please email the research facilitation team for comprehensive advice and support. Please note that potential applications for this grant will be at the discretion of DPIR due to the financial constraints of the grant.
A example of a successful ESRC New Investigator application can be found in DPIR's proposal bank.
